Samsung Electronics Corporation volunteers helped build new homes for poor families

Habitat for Humanity Vietnam has welcomed about 90 volunteers supported by Samsung Electronics Corporation (SEC) to Pho Yen district, Thai Nguyen province, to build 5 homes for vulnerable families on August 19 and 20, 2015.

Before participating in construction activities, from August 16 to 18, the volunteers helped set up a computer room for Hong Tien high school in Hong Tien commune. They also provided information technology skills training for students of Thanh Cong, Phuc Thuan and Hong Tien high schools. Moreover, the three schools were supported by the volunteers to install electricity-generating playground equipment which would be used to lighten playground of those schools after sundown and provide children with an adequate playing area.

The volunteer build is part of the “New home – New hope” project, a joint partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Samsung Electrics Corporation which was kicked start in December 2014. Funding for the project comes from Samsung Korea and Habitat for Humanity Vietnam provides construction advice and expertise to 91 families wanting to build new homes, repair existing houses, or renovate and water and sanitation systems. Habitat for Humanity Vietnam also supports community development through training in financial literacy, water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster resilient construction skills and community-based disaster risk management. In addition, two secondary schools have been equipped with information technology classrooms to support children’s education in Phuc Thuan and Thanh Cong communes.
