From 23 to 28 August 2026, Vietnam Special Build 2026 – “Home Matters” welcomed 100 local and international volunteers to Da Nang to work side-by-side with local families, contribute to a special legacy build, gain firsthand insight into community resilience, and create meaningful cross-cultural connections that last a lifetime.
Project Background
Vietnam Special Build 2026 – “Home Matters” took place in Da Nang, one of Vietnam’s most disaster-prone regions, faces annual floods, typhoons, and rising heat that threaten housing and community resilience. Through this project, Habitat Vietnam aimed to provide housing support for 16 poor or near-poor households. As a flagship event marking Habitat Vietnam’s 25th Anniversary, the Home Matters Special Build 2026 delivered safe, durable, and climate-resilient homes while offering volunteers an inspiring, hands-on experience that demonstrates housing as a foundation for health, dignity, and resilience.
Da Nang City
- Location: Situated on the South-Central Coast of Vietnam and located near three major cultural centers: Hue, Hoi An, and My Son.
- Terrain: featured a mix of coastal plains, rivers, and mountains.
- Climate: tropical monsoon climate, featuring wet season (Sep-Dec) with heavy rainfall, occasional typhoons, and dry season (Jan-Aug) with warm and sunny weather.
- Cultural and Historical Significance: A vibrant coastal city in central Vietnam with deep historical roots in the Champa Kingdom. With UNESCO heritage sites nearby and a blend of modern and traditional culture, it stands as both a strategic hub and a cultural gem of Vietnam.
Build Location: Que Son & Que Son Trung
With a total population of 67,000, Que Son and Que Son Trung communes in Da Nang City embody the rural character of Central Vietnam. Livelihoods are rooted in agriculture and traditional crafts, while cultural life is shaped by ancestral worship, folk arts, and memories of wartime history. However, 9% of households in Que Son and 4.9% in Que Son Trung live in vulnerable housing unable to withstand seasonal storms, limited access to safe water and sanitation heightens health risks.
