On May 7, Habitat Vietnam convened a learning and exchange session for staff members featuring the MOD (Master of Disaster) Demo, facilitated by the Asia Society for Social Improvement & Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST). Held under the theme “Disaster Resilience Through Experiential Learning – MOD Demonstration & Partnerships Exploration,” the session brought together Habitat Vietnam colleagues both onsite and online, creating an open and participatory learning environment.
The discussion extended beyond an introduction to the game itself and focused on how experiential, game‑based learning can contribute to stronger disaster preparedness and resilience outcomes. Through MOD’s interactive simulations, participants explored hands‑on approaches to disaster readiness, examined behavioral responses and decision‑making under pressure, and reflected on innovative ways to strengthen community resilience through participatory learning models.

Habitat Vietnam team learned about the mechanism of MOD.
Participants also noted MOD’s strength as a visual and intuitive learning tool, highlighting its ability to translate complex disaster risk concepts into accessible, engaging, and practical learning experiences.

Mr. Minh Le, Interim National Director and Habitat Vietnam staff discussed the prompt disaster scenarios.
The session further underscored strong alignment between MOD and Habitat Vietnam’s ongoing community‑focused programs, particularly in community resilience building, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives, youth and community engagement, and capacity‑building in vulnerable communities. This alignment sparked constructive conversations on how experiential tools like MOD could complement and enhance existing training and engagement approaches.
A key outcome of the session was the natural shift in focus—from understanding the tool itself to discussing practical applications and future collaboration opportunities.

Mr. Thuan shared about the purpose of the MOD Demo
Reflecting on the exchange, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Partnership & Business Development Lead, Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), shared:
“We truly appreciated the openness, active engagement, and thoughtful reflections from Habitat Vietnam staff members throughout the session. From our perspective, the discussion went beyond a typical game demonstration and became a meaningful exchange on experiential learning for disaster preparedness, behavioral engagement, and decision‑making under pressure.”
Habitat Vietnam values this opportunity to learn, exchange, and explore innovative approaches to disaster resilience. We look forward to continuing conversations with ASSIST Mekong and building on the momentum generated by this session to turn shared ideas into impactful collaborations.
