Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity International began its work in Vietnam in 2001. For 25 years, Habitat Vietnam has been delivering a holistic approach to housing by empowering communities to take ownership in improving their living conditions and settlements and has helped improve the lives of over 36,000 households (209,000 individuals).

In partnership with the community, the government, private sector and donor parties, small-scale loans are extended to low-income families with low interest rates and tailored repayments, making housing affordable to those who are unreached by traditional financing.

Looking ahead, as Viet Nam faces the dual challenges of rural and urban transformation and the growing impacts of climate change, Habitat will continue to play a catalytic role in advancing housing as a basic right under the Constitution.

By 2028, Habitat Vietnam seeks to impact the lives of around 230,000 people in Viet Nam through inclusive and resilient shelter; and housing access and affordability solutions.

Through shelter, we empower.

Approach to housing

As part of its integrated approach to housing, Habitat Vietnam supports communities through housing support services, promotion of climate resilience, inclusion, government-people engagement and market-based housing micro-finance.

Enhancing community

Habitat Vietnam is committed to enhancing community conditions in Vietnam’s remote areas, especially among ethnic minority groups and the most vulnerable by providing solutions to unsafe and inadequate housing.

The organization also promotes volunteerism and broad participation through its biennial Vietnam Big Build event, which emphasizes the significance of adequate, safe, affordable housing and the positive impact of collective efforts in construction and community improvement projects.

Habitat for Humanity began its work in 1976 as a grassroots movement on a community farm in South Georgia, USA. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities, in more than 50 states in the US, and around 70 countries around the world.

With our help, thousands of people have achieved the strength, stability and self-sufficiency they need to build a better life.

Each home is the basis for building a better future.
