My Tho City Urban Sanitation and Housing Upgrading via Microfinance Partnership

Density (per/km2): 694- Poverty Rate by Province: 17%- Poverty Rate by region: Mekong River Delta 20.11- Implementing Partners: TUFO, My Tho Fatherland Front, My Tho  Red Cross- Corporate Partners: Dow Chemical, JOAC, Swire Cold Storage- Bilateral & Multilateral Organizations:  KOICAHabitat has been working primarily in My Tho City, Tien Giang province to improve the quality of housing and sanitation for 1081 poor families in 13 wards/communes. Our partnerships and established presence down in Tien Giang, as well as recent funding has created opportunities for program expansion, and expanding our geographical target area to better meet the needs of the impoverished in the district.  With the support from Habitat's technical team as well as the establishment of a micro credit scheme, families in this province are able to make necessary housing and WatSan repairs to their homes.Successes to date:- 2000 families served to date -  A baseline survey of Go Cong District has been conducted to best determine need in the area and to explore opportunity to expand the project throughout Tien Giang.
